Lyrics for "Time Is On Our Side (at the Black Swan)

Mem'ries of the Black Swan on a sultry summer night

Where they sang till the wee hours,we got home by morning light.

Didn't go to Stratford just for "Pericles"

But to the Black Swan to hear the Conspiracy.

We could sing all night long

Till the day was done

We had time, time on our side

Till we met the sun.

Stratford's only espresso machine with a fruit cheese treat,

Songs shouting love with melodies so sweet.

Their little kids ran around while they played,

Some of them became songwriters for today.

(chorus)

Twas a high school English trip back in Sixty-Eight

Finding an atmosphere of peace by candlelight

Their songs fueled us to critically think

Giving us hope in a world on the brink

(chorus)

The Black Swan closed over 40 years ago

But we remember what they said to know,

The Black Swan can arise anywhere

We are strong enough for love, for one another we care

And every August now for the last 30 years

A Black Swan Revival thanks to kind volunteers

(chorus)

PRESS RELEASE

The Paradigm Shifters - "Work Together, Change is Due"

The musical trio David Flack and the Paradigm Shifters is composed of multi-talented and environmentally conscious friends David Flack, Frances Locs, and Raphael Keelan. They met six years ago at a Staircase Theatre Open Mic hosted by Raphael. With little or no rehearsal, they combined their talents that night, and found joy in playing together.

Since then, the Shifters trio has been artfully performing and recording David's original songs with David on acoustic guitar and vocals; Frances on keyboard, flute and sax; and Raphael on vocals. Each is an accomplished musician in his or her own right, and you can click on their names below to check out their music.

David's honest folk songs dig in roots with Raphael's resonant, full-bodied harmonies, while at the same time, drift skyward on the soundscape Frances weaves to surround the listener.

In their recently released digital album Cranberries in Song, David Flack and the Paradigm Shifters pay an admiring three-song tribute to the sour, bog-loving fruit native to North America: the cranberry. The listener meanders from two upbeat tracks celebrating the red fruit's nutritional and healing properties, to a lament asking, "Oh Cranberry, why did they not write you a song?"

The band recorded Cranberries in Song in a short, creative burst at Grant Avenue Studio in Hamilton, Ontario. Many thanks to the amazing Producer/Engineer/Musician Amy King, who pulled everything together and even added some beautiful arrangements to the songs. The Shifters released the digital album on March 1, 2018. Wade in and enjoy!

They will be performing and promoting Oh Cranberry at an Earth Day Celebration hosted by Beyond Montessori School in St. Catharines on April 22, 2018.

You can also find and purchase their 14-song digital album Not Your Typical Average, also produced by Amy King, on their bandcamp site. Released in April 2016, this album is a collaborative effort of friendship and skilled musicianship that takes you on a poetic journey through reminiscence, yearning, humour, fun, love, nature, and environmental urgency.

In the footsteps of many folk musicians who came before, David and the Paradigm Shifters are singing and playing for change, for a shift away from corporate practices that damage the earth, animals, and people. To that end, they remind us in the song Paradigm Shift that

"Love surrounds you, no need to run
We're not alone, we all are one."

BIO

David Flack began playing in 2007 at the Chameleon’s Cove Coffee House in Bancroft, subsequently other venues stretching down to his hometown of St. Catharines/Thorold. In 2010 he organized and hosted an evening of musical comedy “Yuk It Up at the Arlington” in Maynooth. In 2012, along with Timothy Healey and Catharine Mellor, he gave Thorold the Art of Peace Festival bringing in several Perth County Conspirators and other musicians from Hamilton and Toronto. In 2016 he released his debut CD, “Not Your Typical Average”, music in the folk/roots category, a diverse set of songs with environmental awareness, elements of comedy, autobiographical strands and poetry, yet all tied together thematically as defined in one of its songs “Strong Enough for Love”. Two of the songs, “Paradigm Shift” and “Come Up to Maynooth” became music videos and are available on David’s You Tube channel. David was joined on stage in his CD release shows by Raphael Keelan (vocals) and Frances Locs (flute and saxophone). They are currently planning to record and release (on Google Play Music) in Spring 2018 a new song that David wrote called “Oh Cranberry”.
